On 8 March 2018 the Government introduced the Vegetation Management and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018 to Parliament which proposes to deliver more sustainable vegetation management laws for Queensland. The Amendment Bill proposes to change some unregulated areas of vegetation (category X on the Regulated Vegetation Management Maps) to regulated areas. The Mineral and Energy Resources (Financial Provisioning) Bill 2018, reintroduced to Parliament on 15 February 2018, seeks to establish a new financial assurance system for resources projects in Queensland. In addition, stronger regulation of progressive rehabilitation milestones is proposed with increased consultation / public input to final land uses of rehabilitated land in Queensland. All mining projects, existing and proposed, are likely to be impacted.
